My Precious
by Sharon
(Germany)
This is my very favourite rose. It was a shelf-warmer in our local market and I gave her the name "My Precious". It was already sorted out and was placed behind the cashier in the dark, ready to get rid off. I could not see it, but I smelled it. It has an extaordinary strong, flowery and sweet fragrance. It blooms throughout the season and in spring you can smell it in the whole garden. To that time I was firmly convinced never to buy myself a rose (because of the children, the dogs, the trouble of the diseases..) but it was the start of a new love. Now I have about 45 roses in my garden and each is something special, but "she" means a lot to me.
Carol's Comments
Growing roses can be a very rewarding and (addicting) hobby! America's favorite flower is fast becoming homeowners and landscapers favorite flower also. Today's modern roses repeat blooms quickly, are trouble-free, and have the most continuous bloom season of any flowering shrub. Once you learn not to fear roses, you can join the ranks of those who always wanted to grow roses, but because of their bad rap was scared to try them. Sharon is a perfect example of this, but has since moved up to a seasoned gardener with over 45 roses in her garden! Browse the many pages on this site, and gather as much information as you need, view the pictures, and if you start to feel the itch of the gardening bug to grow roses, Don't be afraid to give them a try!
