Golden Showers
I LOVE the climbing golden showers rose and have grown it most places I have lived (we move a lot, my husband is an engineer!)
The flowers are lovely, a beautiful golden yellow, semi double with about 20 petals. They are like a giant buttercup, with a gorgeous boss of red stamens in the center. It also smells delightful, a fairly strong, rose, honey fragrance. It is self cleaning, the flowers don't turn that nasty brown color.
It usually tops about 12 feet so it makes a nice rose to train near your front door, but you can prune it to whatever height you need. One of mine grew to cover two stories, about 20 feet high on a warm wall. It has very few thorns, so it is easy to prune.
My neighbors always ask this rose's name and usually end up planting one of their own. It's only problem seems to be blackspot, and it is unfortunately loved by June bugs. I take it as a free summer prune!
A very favorable review by Valerie!
More virtues of this rose are the elegant young buds that turn into cheerful yellow blooms. The bush continues to bloom from Summer through Fall without pause.
The almost thornless canes make pruning easy, and the rose bush recovers well, even from bad pruning!
The only disadvantages of this rose seems to be the fact that the flowers don't last as long as you would like, and they fade as they age.
All things considered, this is a top notch yellow climbing rose, that is ranked highly amoung rose growers!
