Peony Plants

Perennials for your Garden

There isn’t a more rewarding garden flower than herbaceous Peony Plants. From exquisitely delicate singles to large and lush doubles peonies, with shades from pure white to the deepest red. They produce their display in early June, regardless of weather. Peonies like full sun and neutral to slightly sweet soil and shrug off cold. Peonies produce their extravagant display every year, regardless of weather, because they are among the most durable and longest-lived plants. They have no natural enemies, no exacting cultural requirements beyond full sun and neutral to slightly sweet soil. After bloom is complete, you are left with a handsome mound of glossy, deep green foliage that will happily anchor the next sequence of bloom in the neighborhood. Finally, Peonies make superior cut flowers, lasting more than a week if cut in full bud.

Best Man

'Best Man' has all the dependable qualities you'd expect from a Peony -- a grand show of blooms in June followed by healthy, essentially trouble-free foliage the rest of the season. The double flowers are deep red with pink tones and although held on sturdy stems, they may need staking to protect them from wind and rain. Given proper conditions, peony plants will stand by you for decades. Mid- to late season.

Bowl of Cream

Fragrant, pure-white double flowers measuring up to 8in across have golden stamens hidden in their deep, bowl-shaped blooms. Glorious in bouquets, 'Bowl of Cream' is a Gold Medal winner hybridized by Roy Klehm in 1963. Midseason.

Coral Charm

These early-blooming semidouble peony plants have deep coral buds that open to form glowing chalices of a smooth coral-peach. Against the deep green foliage, this color could hardly be more attractive. Plant 'Coral Charm' with whites, but not strong pinks or reds. Winner of the American Peony Society's Gold Medal in 1986.

Edens perfume

Indeed, the scent is so perfume-like, you could be smelling a Rose. And, if fragrance were not enough, the pink, double flowers on this vigorous, compact plant measure up to 7in across. 'Eden's Perfume' is glorious in a vase. Midseason.

Bowl of Beauty

The blossoms are huge: 9-10in across, sometimes more. The petals are a deep rose, the center white and fluffy with hints of pale yellow. Early.

These delicate looking Peony plants are quite distinct from the double peonies. Blooms contain cushions of yellow staminodes surrounded by petals. They also have exceptionally strong stems, which means you’ll seldom lose a flower to weather. Most perform better in the South than the doubles do.

Buckeye Belle

The uniquely colored, almost chocolate-red, semidouble flowers of these lovely Peony plants have sparkling yellow centers. 'Buckeye Belle' produces neat, upright stems on short plants. Early.

Festiva maxima

Large, pure white, fragrant blooms with occasional flecks of crimson at the base of the center petals have made this variety a great Peony for generations and our largest seller for many years. It's also the best double for southern gardens. Early.

Nancy Nora

Peony Plants are wonderful perrenial flowers to add to your garden. Once planted they do last for a very long time. They can be a bit tricky to plant. You have to make sure they are planted at the right depth or they won't flower. when they start to grow in the spring, the emerging stalks should be thick, not spindly. If you see spindly thin stalks, they are proabably planted to deep. They will leaf out (small thin, short stems with small leaves on top- but NO flowers) So.. gently lift them up, positioning them higher, firm the soil, water.. see what hapens!
