This rose is one of the darkest of reds of the Hybrid Tea roses. The red petals have velvety, near black markings on the upper sides, and come usually singly on long, strong stems that are perfect for cutting.
This Hybrid Tea rose seems to do best in dry climates. They thrive in the heat, but the flowers tend to ball in damp conditions. It is a healthy growing, very disease resistant rose bush.
In warmer climates, the lovely blooms darken so much, they appear to be nearly black velvet. They are simply stunning red roses, that are set off beautifully by the dark green foliage.
The parentage of these tea roses are the same as Papa Meilland and the Mister Lincoln Rose which is another great red hybrid tea rose. Oklahoma has many of the same great characteristics as the parent roses. They display the same dusky red color, with Oklahoma being the darker of the three, and the wonderful old rose scent, making them a classic hybrid tea rose!
This rose is the state flower of Oklahoma.
