Gardening Problems, and Gardening Pests can be a real challenge for the unaware gardner!

Try one of these home solutions to your problem.

Problems with Deer

To discourage deer from feeding on your roses:

(Deer LOVE tender rose shoots)

Try this organic concotion:

Blend together the following:

3 eggs, 1/3 cup Tabasco Sauce, 1 cup water, 1/3 liquid dish soap

Mix with one gallon of water- Spray on rose bushes, weekly. Wear gloves and googles when using this spray!!! Tabasco sauce can be very irritating (and) painful in the eyes or on your skin.

One wiff sends the deer off in another direction! Another deterrent to deer is hair -Human or animal - scatter some around or amidst the plants!

Deal with Fungal Problems Organically!

Instead of chemicals- Try these organic solutions!

Powdery Mildew

An organic way to deal with Powdery Mildew is to prevent it with a milk bath.

Mix 1/3 cup milk (whole or skim) with 3 cups of water.

Shake well.

Pour in a spray bottle and mist on plants until it drips from the leaves.

Repeat once a week with a new batch.

Also useful on garden phlox and other flowers and vegetables (strawberries)etc. that are affected by powdery mildew.

Black Spot

The baking Soda cure.

Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of any mild dish soap, with a quart of water. Pour into a spray bottle. Spray the tops and undersides of the foliage (leaves and stems) of your roses.

Apply once a week, ONLY on cloudy days, because it can burn foliage on hot sunny days!

It can prevent black spot and also stop the spread of the fungal disease!
