As beautiful as roses are, a garden needs evergreen plants, shrubs, and perennials to give it balance.
If you've ever been to a public rose garden, you've noticed how the garden is made up of, not only roses, but many flowering shrubs, trees,perennial plants in masse, and evergreen plants. The experts know,it is this combination of plants, that make the garden so stunning.
 | Arborvitae - Sherwood Moss - The Sherwood Moss Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Sherwood Moss', is a dwarf, cone-shaped Arborvitae evergreen plant with unusual soft, feathery foliage. It requires sun and deep, well-drained soil. The unique texture makes this a very unusual variegated plant that shines in winter with its bronze winter color. It is not a globe, not a pyramid, but a well shaped mound that has no equal. Arborvitae is one of the most versatile, easy-to-grow evergreens suited to cold, northern landscapes. They are often used as specimen plants, hedges, foundation plantings and windbreaks. Arborvitaes are highly adaptable plants.

 | Juniper - Sea Green The Juniper Sea Green, 'Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Sea Green', also known as Chinese Juniper, is an evergreen plant that makes a great hedge that provides winter interest. This Juniper is a compact shrub with a fountain-like, arching habit. The bright green, fine textured foliage forms a vase shaped six foot plant. The Sea Green is tolerant of many soils and weather conditions. Place this plant in well drained soil. Sea Green Junipers are used for accent plants, borders, windbreaks and screens.

 | Mugho Pine The Mugho Pine tree, Pinus mugo mughus, may also be called the dwarf mountain pine. This evergreen little dwarf conifer has branching, upright stems evenly covered in 2-inch-long needles of a deep, dark true green. Thanks to its low growth, mugho pine can be used at the front of a border or anywhere you want year-round greenery in conifer form. Mugho pine trees do not need special soil. In nature, it often grows in slightly rocky areas with shallow topsoil. It does require good drainage. Roots grow near the surface, so using a cover soil with a 2-inch-thick mulch to protect them is recommended. These trees are easily transplanted. They make a great landscaping evergreen plant because their shape and size are controllable by shearing.

It has dark blue-green summer foliage that has a feathery appearance. It is nicely uniform and full with a plum winter color. 'Wisconsin' Junipers have two opposite, mostly small, scale-like and tightly appressed leaves at each node of the twig. There is usually a light-colored stripe along the length of the top surface of each leaf. Prune Junipers in June after the new growth has time to establish. 'AmiDak' is a dense, low spreading juniper that annually produces heavy crops of blueberry-like cones. The plant gets its name from the heavy crops of these berry-like cones, which resemble blueberries. The fruit is often used as a flavoring in sauerkraut, stuffings, vegetable pates, and is an essential ingredient of gin. Blueberry Delight Juniper has a foliage that is a rich, dark green with contrasting silvery-blue hues on the upper leaf surface. Its summer color is retained well in winter. Succeeds in most soils so long as they are well drained, preferring a neutral or slightly alkaline soil. It also does well in chalky or heavy clay soils.
