These are very prolific flowering Old Garden Roses. The long-lasting flowers are borne in small clusters. The deep, round, buds look at first as though the flowers will be pink, but as the fluffy pompons open, they become dark red, violet colored flowers, that quickly turn to a dark purple, then age to slate-gray.

This rose was named after Cardinal Richelieu. He was minister from 1585-1642, to Louis XIII

The dark green stems, have very few prickles(thorns). This medium-growing shrub makes a well formed rose bush, that can make a nice addition to your garden.

For a spectacular looking rose bush, prune only dead, diseased, or damaged growth, leaving the old wood in tact. Prune in late Winter.

Sometimes you will find a "gem" of a rose among the old varieties.....This is one of them! Just because it only blooms once, don't let that keep you from planting it! Those amazing flowers are worth their "One time show".
